Welcome.
Lee Marmon’s photos of the Pueblo people of Laguna are already known by many art lovers around the globe. Lee began his photography career in 1945 and since then he has taken noteworthy photos that have been coveted by collectors and museums.
For about ten years, Lee took photos at the Bob Hope Desert Classic as the official photographer for the annual competition. In 1983, Lee returned to Laguna to continue his own work. Since then he has photographed not only his pueblo tribe in New Mexico, Laguna Pueblo, but also the neighboring tribes, Acoma and Zuni Pueblos.
Shortly after the photographer returned to his home in Laguna, on a visit to Palm Springs he happened to meet a publisher and art collector, Ed Weston. After looking over several of Lee’s black & white images, Weston chose the photo of Jeff Sousea to design a poster around.
The poster is now popularly known as “White Man’s Moccasins” and sightings have been reported in the far corners of the earth.
Here you will find just a few of the images he has taken during his career.
The Palm Springs Gallery contains photos from the eight seasons he spent in the resort town, Palm Springs, CA., taking PR photos for the Classic.
A few of Marmon’s photos from his collection of Pueblos friends can be viewed at Southwestern Gallery
